Before our regular Mindful Monday post, I’d like to share a fundraiser to help rebuild the Islamic Center of Ypsilanti after it burned this weekend. No was injured, but the cause of the suspicious fire is under investigation. I hope Ypsilanti (the city I live in) and anyone else who can will stand behind our Muslim neighbors at this time.
Thank you, and now on with Mindful Monday. This week:
Tempe Police Chief Sylvia Moir is encouraging the use of meditation on her force as a key part of officer development. Says Moir:
“Without a doubt I think the [meditation] practice shows promise, getting us to be present, not take triggers, not take the bait that makes us react and if the practice can get us to see the perspective of another to enhance our compassion, then I think it does lend itself to broader application in policing.”
Pupils in the UK to receive mindfulness training: The Independent reports that students as young as eight will receive instruction in mindful methods to help reduce stress, anxiety and depression.
As Tami Hoey writes, “The added health benefits of having a goat around while you’re working out are unknown, but there’s no denying it’s darn cute.” Have you ever brought your pet into your workout or mindfulness routine? Let us know in the comments!
